Summary: Harry has been rescued from the Dursleys by his mum's best friend, Severus Snape. Another in the Little Harry series.

Harry finished his arithmetic homework and set his quill down carefully. His head hurt and he was shivering even with a jumper on. His homework was done except reading and Harry wondered if Severus would let him read in front of the fireplace.

Gathering his courage, Harry stood up and walked over to where Severus was working. "Severus?"

"Yes?" Severus kept writing, but he didn't sound mad.

"Can I do my reading on the couch?"

"May I—" Severus looked up and frowned. "I suppose we could be flexible this once."

"Thank you."

"Do you feel all right?"

"'Head hurts."

Harry obediently took the potions Severus gave him before carrying the child over to the couch. Wrapping Harry in a quilt, Severus Summoned his reading book and settled Harry against him. The amount of heat radiating off the small body astounded him and Severus hoped the potions worked. Other that a mild cold, Harry hadn't been sick since Severus took custody of him. If Harry wasn't unable to go to school, Severus knew his schedule wasn't flexible enough to stay home with Harry for any length of time.

Worst case scenario, he'd have to take Harry to Hogwarts with him.

Harry's throat started to hurt in the middle of the night, waking him up with the pain. He was shivering so hard that he could barely move and tears ran down his face from the pain as he tried to call for Severus. Forcing himself to crawl out of bed, Harry stumbled into Severus' room, hoping he'd be flexible and let Harry stay with him. The worst that could happen would be Severus sending Harry back to his own bed.

Finding the bed in the dark, Harry climbed up, over Severus' legs, and under the blanket. He burrowed against Severus.

Severus held Harry as he sat in his quarters at Hogwarts, thankful that his fever was down. His eyes were gritty with fatigue but Harry whimpered whenever Severus tried to lay him down.

"Worst case of streptococcus I've seen in a long time," Madam Pomfrey told him quietly, closing her bag.

"My schedule is flexible tomorrow, Severus," Minerva said. "I'll oversee your morning class."

"And I'll sit with the poppet in the afternoon." Pomfrey offered.

Severus was speechless, unused to such support. "I—thank you."

"To bed with you both!" Minerva ordered, smiling.

Severus obeyed, Harry nestled against him.

Rested, Severus prepared a cup of tea, thankful that Harry was still sleeping, his fever down.

"Severus?"

Albus Dumbledore's voice startled him and Severus turned to see him step from the fire. Suddenly, Severus realized Harry's scar wasn't covered by make-up.

"I heard your ward was ill, Severus. Do you need assistance?"

Severus forced himself to stay calm. "Thank you, Headmaster, but we've made arrangements."

Dumbledore nodded, eyes intent. "Excellent, do let me know if you need anything."

"Thank you."

Severus collapsed on the couch after Dumbledore left. Had Poppy noticed Harry's scar? The worst case consequences made Severus shudder.

Comments

I hope Severus learns to ask for help in the future. He can't do everything himself no matter how much he wants to.
I think Severus is a combination of paranoid and insecure - he'll come around!

Thanks!
Poor Harry. It'll be alright, though.
I think Harry is helping Severus become more accepting! Thank you!
I think Poppy was advised by Minerva so no worries there but not sure how long they will be able to hide Harry from Dumbledore. Yes Severus you do have friends that will assist. Thank you for the updtae.
Someday Severus will be more trusting! :) Thank you!
